Purpose of the Job
Working for or alongside Principal/Associate Engineers, the role is to manage and deliver small to large scale projects and produce civil/structural/electrical/mechanic engineering drawings to satisfy or exceed client requirements. It will include new build and refurbishment projects in a variety of sectors.
We are looking for a keen, progressive, versatile individual who can adopt a flexible approach to their role to provide support to all teams across the office as workload dictates. An individual who is willing to go the extra mile to ensure work is delivered correctly and accurately and on time which may, on occasion, include working outside of normal office hours.
Principle Accountabilities
1. Perform complex drafting assignments utilizing both manual and computer aided design and drafting software; plan, sections, elevations, details, construction documents for review and approval
2. Provide CAD (computer-aided design) and drafting support to the Supervising Consultant’s engineering and surveying teams
3. Study preliminary project design drawings and requirement
4. Correct and modify drawing based on Design Engineer's recommendations
5. Calculate weights, volumes, and stress factors and their implications for technical aspects of designs.
6. Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from civil engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
Challenges
· It should be understood that the contract requires travel to potentially dangerous areas. Insurance and protective measures are provided, however, a medium/high degree of risk is inherent to working conditions in a dangerous environment.
· Able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
Knowledge and Experience
Must possess a Civil Engineering or equivalent tertiary degree.
Minimum of 5 years of work experience as an Autocad Designer/Operator
Proficient with the latest AutoCAD applications.
Proficient with FrameCAD ProDesign and FrameCAD Detailer
Excellent working knowledge of the REVIT software suites and Google Sketch Up.
Understanding of Architectural, Structural and Civil design.
Understanding of both Mechanical and Electrical engineering systems is advantageous.
Knowledge of current International Building Codes.
Must possess the ability to read working drawings and related specifications and the ability to graphically translate verbal and visual instructions into working drawings
Surveying Experience and experience with software to link total station data to AutoCad is advantageous
Knowledge in drawing compositions using external references and other advanced AutoCAD drafting techniques
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Excellent time management and prioritization of tasks.
Good command of English, both written and verbal.
Travel Requirements
Travel within African continent as and when needed for proposal management and Business Development purposes.
